The name Nike is inspired by the Greek goddess of victory Niké, a winged goddess able to move at great speed, whose most famous representation, a statue exhibited in the Louvre, is the Victory of Samothrace. The brand became famous for its simple and quickly recognizable logo: the Swoosh, a comma placed upside down and horizontal; it was created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 as a stylized representation of the goddess' wing.
